Since it launched nearly two decades ago, Infinite Investment Systems has been providing technology to Canadian investment managers with its flagship application, Harmony. At the time, its founders sought to elevate a crucial piece of wealth managers’ value proposition: portfolio management rooted in data that could be relied upon.
“We started this company in 2004,” says Ali Zahedi, the firm’s co-founder and chief executive officer. “Both myself and my partner had experience in the industry, so we knew that there was a need to build a portfolio management system that was not only comprehensive, but fully integrated as well.”
Zahedi says the portfolio management systems available back then were modular, providing solutions to portfolio management in a fragmented, piecemeal way. He and co-founder Ahmad Joulaie realized that by building an integrated solution with all the different modules required for portfolio management, they could bring a great, viable product to the market.
That led to the development of Harmony, a comprehensive portfolio management system that until now, serves as the firm’s flagship product. From its infancy to its current state, the platform continues to earn praise from users across the country, as it has evolved to keep up with wealth firms’ growing needs. Harmony has enabled more than 85 firms across Canada to successfully grow and scale their businesses by offering a comprehensive suite of functionality, which helps to streamline operations and administration.
“When we first started, the concern around integration was just for the different modules within the portfolio management system,” Zahedi says. “Now, the challenge of integration applies to all the different systems involved in managing wealth.”
“Now, we have much more frequent recognition awards because we want to celebrate people staying at CAAT and recognize the contributions that they bring to the organization”

Aside from trading securities and other investments, wealth firms now rely on a multitude of systems for account opening, client intake, compliance, and more. Due to the sheer diversity of platforms used, Zahedi says the integration puzzle has become more complex, with a greater volume of data than ever flowing between the front, middle, and back offices.
Beyond that, he highlights that ensuring security by mitigating data risk is more important than it has ever been. With the rising ubiquity of paperless processes and remote interactions – including virtual client meetings and work-from-home arrangements – he says cybersecurity has become more of a watchword for wealth firms and the tech providers that work with them.
“We live in a world where finding the right expertise is important, so we’ve invested quite a bit to hire great people who can do great things,” Zahedi says. “At the end of the day, all of these concerns need to be addressed by the right team of dedicated experts, with the appropriate infrastructure to support them.”
In upgrading its technology, Infinite Investment Systems has also put thorough compliance and audit procedures in place, such as an annual SOC2 Type II audit, ensuring that things are done as effectively and efficiently as possible.
Looking ahead, Zahedi says the future of the industry lies in data integrity and data processing – ensuring firms have access to rich, useable data. As he sees it, much of the wealth industry today relies heavily on legacy computer systems – “old, reliable” machines that might not be able to address the challenges of the modern world as they should. To that end, the firm is investing heavily in data platforms, data warehousing tools, and data lakes to help its client firms maximize the value of the wealth of data they possess through AI analysis, reporting functions, and other processes to serve their end-clients.
“Our future roadmap focuses greatly on the ability for us to ingest data from many, many different sources, creating unified and powerful data platforms that bring all of that data in, and turn it into meaningful reporting and functionality,” Zahedi said.
