In 2012, he underwent a professional metamorphosis, transitioning his licensing from Mutual Fund Dealers Association (MFDA) to Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC) – a crucial upgrade allowing full securities trading, and the first requirement on the road to Discretionary Portfolio Management (DPM) designation.
Then, in 2018, he launched the Med-Wealth Defensive Growth model, a concentrated US stock portfolio deliberately unhedged against the Canadian dollar. The design allows clients to benefit from CAD weakness, an elegant and timely solution that married conviction with currency foresight and which resonates with globally minded clients.
The strategy continues to evolve. Since mid-2023, Soutsos’s portfolio has become even more responsive to market currents, balancing growth and defensiveness, reflecting the complexity of today’s investment landscape.
The portfolios are 100-percent stock-based, eschewing the ETF-heavy asset allocator model that dominates the retail advisory space. Every holding is selected, analyzed, and traded by Soutsos, an approach that demands both discipline and deep research.
For investors who tend to be medical professionals and pre-retirees with portfolios over $500,000, the appeal is clear: deep expertise, relentless transparency, and a portfolio manager who blends analytical rigor with the human touch.
“My primary concern at all times is the financial welfare of my clients,” explains Soutsos. “I thoroughly explain the strategy that we employ for portfolio management, a concentrated US stock portfolio that has an almost equal mix of defensive and growth-oriented stocks.”
And the research in a bid to improve his stock selection never stops. “Weekends and evenings are for analysis,” he says.
Communication may be his most distinguishing trait. Soutsos authors a weekly market newsletter, provides quarterly hard copy updates, hosts regular educational presentations and personally meets with clients up to three times a year. “My clients tell me my level of communication is unmatched.”
Now, after being recognized by Wealth Professional as a 5-Star Advisor 2025, a new chapter is unfolding. His son Alexander has joined the practice, bringing a background in business analytics and management consulting. Alexander’s arrival has supercharged the firm’s client experience: bi-weekly podcasts, quarterly webinars, and marketing events have become staples. He handles onboarding and relationship management for new clients, while his father continues to serve the loyal client base he’s built over decades – including the children and grandchildren of many original clients.
This partnership ensures continuity but also marks a succession plan grounded in legacy, not exit.
“I don’t have an ambition to retire,” Soutsos says. “My professional role is also my hobby.”
