With more than 30 years of experience in real estate and finance and seven years in wealth, Helen Hurlbut is one of the pillars of expertise upon which Equiton was built. An immigrant to Canada at an early age from the Czech Republic, Helen has developed an exceptional work ethic, determination and drive, which have been evident throughout her career.
Following a fast rise and successful career in real estate and finance, Hurlbut made the entrepreneurial leap in 2015 to join the founder of Equiton, Jason Roque, as they worked together to ensure private equity investments were made available to all Canadians. From humble beginnings with three employees, Hurlbut diligently worked toward building a successful company from the ground up. Today, Equiton has over 129 employees, over 7800 investors and over $800 million in assets under management.
In July 2020, Hurlbut was instrumental in the move to internalize Equiton’s property management. The formation of Equiton Living reflected the company’s deep commitment to providing hands-on, proactive management and relationship-oriented business practices and continued reinvestment into Equiton’s properties. She believes that internalizing allows for control, which expedites action and provides the ability to better influence key functions that are paramount to providing excellent service to the residents of Equiton’s properties as well as returns for the firm’s investors.
In the past year, Equiton has grown exponentially and moved to a new office to accommodate the ever-expanding team. Throughout a period of transition and expansion, Hurlbut continues to lead by example with a decisive and supportive style toward a shared vision of prosperity and inclusivity. By leveraging her expertise and a strong record of running smooth transactions, Equiton is on track to increase its AUM toward the $1 billion milestone.
