17 years on and still defying the odds
When Jesse Harris entered the wealth management industry just before his 23rd birthday, several people told him he would not last a year.
Nearly 17 years later, the Victoria financial planner reflects on his career. “Outside of any formal recognition, awards, or accolades, my two greatest achievements are the practice I’ve built and the impact I’ve made along the way,” he says. “I’ve defied those expectations by building a successful, growing practice, developing a team I’m incredibly proud of, and, most importantly, helping countless clients and families improve their financial lives.”
A practice that lasts
Harris arrived at the profession after studying medicine, a field that was not ultimately the right fit for his skills and goals. “I recognized that helping individuals and families make informed financial decisions could have a lasting impact on their lives, futures, and overall well-being,” he says. “The profession let me combine my desire to serve others with my strengths in problem-solving, relationship-building, and strategic thinking.”
As the practice grew, his team repeatedly reached capacity, requiring new processes and more people without sacrificing the client relationships that fueled their growth. The practice has maintained a 99 percent client retention rate while also choosing to dive into digital marketing, expanding its online and social media presence, and creating new opportunities to engage with clients and build a broader network.

Guiding clients with genuine connection
Harris built his reputation on pairing deep financial expertise with genuine human connection, taking time to understand not just financial objectives but also the people and priorities behind them. This approach carries families through everything from retirement to business succession planning and long-term wealth preservation and has helped him build lasting relationships across his practice.
He attributes much of his professional foundation to the mentorship of Jeff Smith, now senior regional manager at TD Wealth Financial Planning. “Through his mentorship, I learned the importance of integrity, relationship-building, and always putting clients’ needs first,” he says. “Those lessons continue to influence how I lead my team, serve my clients, and contribute to my community today.” He also credits his father, entrepreneur Mike Harris, for an early grounding in business acumen that has carried him further than he might otherwise have gone.
Growing to serve more families
In 2024, he launched the Harris Group Family Foundation. “The Foundation has created a meaningful platform for our team to support causes that align with our values, including mental health initiatives, animal rehabilitation, and the development of young athletes,” Harris says. “It’s strengthened our connection to the community and let us extend our impact beyond financial services.”
At 40, Harris still considers himself one of the youngest people in the room, though with a veteran’s experience and ambition for what comes next. Named one of WPC’s Rising Stars for 2026, he says the honour is meaningful. “It’s motivation to continue building on the work that has shaped my career,” he adds.
He plans to grow the firm’s reach among high-net-worth clients, business owners, C-suite executives, and Canadian military families while continuing to mentor emerging advisors and grow the Family Foundation’s impact.
