“I will continue to empower and encourage my staff to perform at their best as I have done for the last decade. I will continue to advocate for my clients, embracing new technology and being open to business and industry changes”

Nathan Amor is a private wealth advisor at connectFirst Private Wealth in Calgary.
Over the course of his 17-year career, he started his investment after graduating from the Mount Royal College and worked for Scotiabank, Standard Life, and Sun Life Financial before assuming his current role in 2021 with connectFirst Private Wealth.
“I work with a top-level team in expertise and resources at connectFirst Private Wealth," he says.
Amor credits his success and industry rise to building relationships.
He says, “My extensive knowledge and inquisitive personality help me gain the trust of my clients. I have gained a lot of knowledge along the way but I’m never afraid to say, ‘I don’t know, let me find out’. Then, I get back to my clients in a short period of time with the answers and next steps.”
Internally, connectFirst Private Wealth has access to many resources, such as tax, estate, insurance, and lending, to help Amor gather the information needed to give his clients a quick turnaround, allowing him to provide complete in-depth financial planning.
This commitment has not only delivered results for his clients but has attracted industry professionals.
"My work ethic and entrepreneurial mentality have helped me succeed. Clients like it as they know I’m working hard for them, ensuring the best possible outcomes,” he adds.
Working with others is another key strength that has enabled Amor to earn an impressive reputation. He focuses on sharing his insight with less experienced colleagues.
“I never forget to send the elevator back down. I’ve had a lot of people work on my teams over the years and I take pride in spending time with them, helping them elevate themselves and their careers,” he explains. “I’m most proud of my previous teammates and how successful they’ve become.”
Being a wealth advisor comes with a series of challenges, but Amor is clear on what he prioritizes and regards as indicators of success.
He says, “It’s working with a client, building their financial plan and helping them stick to it, then ultimately watching them retire with confidence.”
In addition, Amor places an importance on enabling clients to retire comfortably, but also on understanding how they will get there. He is keen to deploy his services comprehensively, so the individual has peace of mind and can call on him to explain any technicalities.
“The biggest challenge is helping clients decipher all the different information coming at them all the time. They listen to their friends, family, the news, other advisors, and everyone has an opinion,” he comments. “I deal with this is by getting to know my clients' entire financial and personal situation because our decision-making process will be tailored to their specific situation.”
Outside of his day to day, Amor works with local schools and community groups to build financial literacy and hosts numerous business-building events.
Along with the respect of his peers and colleagues, he has now been awarded the prestigious honour of being named as one of Wealth Professional’s Top 40 Under 40 Rising Stars in 2023.
“I believe this is a great milestone in my career and will leverage this opportunity to continue mentoring my teammates and helping my clients,” adds Amor. “I’m still naive enough to believe I’m making a difference in somebody’s life every day I put my suit on.”

“We have doubled in size three times in the last 12 years through organic growth only,” says Ryan. “I have no idea how far our small family business will grow, but my goal is two applications per week for our most recent junior advisor, to help him get started like my father helped me.”
Ryan says their “BHAG” (Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal) is to grow to $1 billion AUM and 300 group clients within the next 10 years.
Understandably, a lot of Ryan’s time is taken up with training and mentoring new staff to support the company’s rapid growth. Now, he spends almost as much time with employees as he does with clients.
The operation remains a family affair – treating family and coworkers like, well, family. And one of his greatest achievements, he says, was recruiting his brother, Frank J. Ryan, to work with him back in 2016. Frank has been a tremendous asset and the key driver behind Ryco Financial’s employee benefits success.
Ryan says his strongest quality professionally remains “dependability, hands down. Both my clients and staff can depend on me to get things done.” In addition, he has a strong work ethic and is dedicated to providing the best unbiased financial advice.
And he remains committed to building the business one application at a time. “My personal goal is to be better than I was yesterday – every day,” he says. “This includes continuously striving for more designations and continuing education. I strive for personal growth every single day.”
In addition to his 40 Under 40 award, Ryan achieved Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Top of the Table each of the last three years consecutively.
