“No matter how many clients I have, I make sure to call each one personally every quarter. It’s a chance to not only update them on their portfolio, but also check on how they’re doing personally”
Kelvin Rampersad,
Carte Wealth Management
Holding a Chartered Investment Manager designation with more than 12 years of experience in the financial services industry, Mustafa Bukhari is responsible for managing Skyline Wealth Management’s sales team and sourcing new business opportunities to further expand Skyline Wealth Management’s investor base across Canada.
A University of Western Ontario alumni, he holds a Bachelor of Management and Organizational Studies with a Specialization in Finance, and has worked in Canadian banks, online brokerages, and wealth management firms. He is also skilled in investment advisory services.
Bukhari’s long-term goal was to build toward a wealth management practice, become a financial advisor, build a book, and transition to a full-service firm as a portfolio manager.
However, he learned that his skill sets were more geared toward leadership.
“I pivoted and started working toward being a sales leader. I took on roles that would help refine my skills as a leader, such as a sales coach, before transitioning into a national team leader,” he says.
Bukhari takes a client-centric approach to manage the sales team. Having garnered valuable experience in sales and coaching over the course of his career, he has a proven track record of elevating team results when managing large regional territories.
The biggest challenge in his current role is navigating a post-pandemic work environment.
“We had to solve for technology, productivity, and engagement during a fully remote environment. Then, we transitioned into a hybrid model,” he says.
“Now we are looking to transition back to an in-office environment – all while ensuring the business continues to grow while delivering a superior client experience. I find the best way to deal with these changes is to lead by action.”
He adds, “So, during the remote-work years, I would always make myself available through Teams throughout the day. Now that we are moving back to the office, I make myself present there. I find the best way to influence is to be the change you want to see.”
Bukhari’s competitiveness keeps him at the forefront of the industry.
“I like to draw parallels between the sporting world and my career. I started off as trying to be the best individual contributor – make the all-star team, then transition into a player/coach, and now leader/management.”
Bukhari has been a long-term sponsor of the “Because I Am a Girl” campaign with Plan Canada, which aims to help underprivileged girls build brighter futures and realize their potential. He is also an active participant in sports-related annual charity fundraisers such as JDRF and the Canadian Cancer Society. He is an avid sports enthusiast and enjoys teaching his two daughters golf, tennis, and cricket.
