“Our mission is simple: we empower financial planners to spend more time building trust, deepening client relationships, and growing their business”
Chris Arthur, Bold Wealth
Blending EQ and IQ has been the recipe for success for Vanessa Hui, Senior Client Advisor at Forthlane Partners, an independent wealth and asset management firm that delivers global outsourced chief investment officer (OCIO) services to high-net-worth individuals, families, family offices, and foundations across Canada and the Cayman Islands.
With a sophisticated yet empathetic approach to each client interaction, Hui has been instrumental in delivering Forthlane’s differentiated, institutional-grade approach to wealth management. Leaving a rising career as a corporate lawyer at one of Canada’s top Bay Street law firms to pursue an entrepreneurial venture was a significant risk – but one that paid off. Today, she thrives at Forthlane alongside a world-class team of industry veterans who are redefining how Canada’s wealthiest families preserve and grow their capital.
“Over the past seven years, I’ve had the opportunity to help shape Forthlane from its earliest stages, grow alongside an incredible team, and steward client portfolios through some of the most challenging market environments,” she says.
Hui’s success is rooted in a distinctive blend of legal, financial, and strategic expertise. Armed with a JD/MBA from the University of Toronto, along with a Bachelor of Commerce from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University, she has cultivated a unique skillset that allows her to navigate complex client needs with both technical precision and human insight.
Driven by a commitment to excellence, Hui holds herself to exacting standards – an approach that brings both rewards and challenges.
“The biggest challenge is time – there are always more people I want to connect with, more to learn, and more opportunities to explore,” she admits. “I also set very high standards for myself, which can make it feel like there’s never enough hours in the day to accomplish all the things I want to do.”
Mentorship has played a defining role in Vanessa’s journey. “I’ve been fortunate to have many incredible mentors who have influenced me in different ways – whether by offering guidance at critical decision points in my career, challenging my thinking, or simply leading by example,” she says.
“I know that I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for mentors along the way. I’m a big believer in surrounding yourself with the best people possible and nurturing your relationships.”
Ownership of her work is a key contributor to her continued success, with Hui demonstrating a drive and passion that sets her apart.
“I believe that whether a task is small or strategic, it deserves the same level of accountability, and commitment,” she notes. “At Forthlane, all employees are owners. Taking pride of ownership has made my work both fulfilling and fun, and it’s what drives me to bring energy and excellence to everything I do.”
Beyond her client work, Hui is passionate about thought leadership. She hosts the “Forthlane Features” podcast, where she engages global experts in wealth and asset management.
