As a multi-awarded advisor, Kathy Sager knows what it takes to succeed in the high-net-worth investment space. Her education in resilience and grit in a competitive environment began with her first job as a sales representative at Xerox Corporation. From there, she joined Merrill Lynch as a rookie broker, where she rose to the top within the first six months. Shortly after starting her career in finance, she developed a passion for educating women on growing and protecting their wealth.
“If I could be known for one thing, it would be as a fierce advocate of financial education,” Sager says. “This has informed the pathway of my success over the years.”
Today, that passion burns just as strongly for Sager, who proudly provides holistic planning services for high-net-worth individuals and families to reach their wealth management goals.
“My job is to educate my clients about the path – the thinking behind our moves, the strategy going forward and the time horizon we’re working with,” Sager says. “It’s not just about making a wise investment decision for them; it’s about empowering them to understand why that investment is being made, so that they live with knowledge and confidence.”
Beyond her commitment to financial literacy, Sager has successfully set herself apart from other advisors with a high-touch practice. Her ability to connect on a personal level and have regular reviews has been the foundation of her client relationships.
“I feel connected to each of my clients. In the case of my female clients, I can relate from my own experience building my career as a woman over the decades,” she says. “Women are amazing to work with; they are loyal, trusting, appreciative and collaborative – which is incredibly important to me as someone who cherishes long-lasting relationships.”
Sager has also enriched her practice with connections to some of the most brilliant portfolio managers, allowing her to steer portfolios with proper asset allocation and strong diversification. Her perspective on portfolio management, as a dance in which one must know when to step forward and when to step back into value and income providers, has resulted in impressive portfolio that gains a protection for clients in all market conditions.
“After a considerable time in the business, I don’t ‘reinvent’ myself whenever there are seismic events in the world or changes in the market,” she says. “Yes, we react and respond, but inherent in our business approach is a flexibility and latitude that allows for that adaptation.”
Today, Sager lives in West Vancouver with her husband Mark, who currently serves as mayor, along with their two dogs and one cat. With a genuine passion for animal rescue, she supports numerous animal rescue initiatives and charities around the world and at home.
As the proud mother of a professional female opera singer based in San Francisco, Sager is also a passionate supporter of the arts. She has avidly supported the Kay Meek Centre in West Vancouver since it was founded 20 years ago.
