“Our mission is simple: we empower financial planners to spend more time building trust, deepening client relationships, and growing their business”
Chris Arthur, Bold Wealth
Providing clients with holistic wealth solutions has been the career-long calling card of Wealth Professional’s Leading Women in Wealth member Dianne White, president and CEO of Nexus Investment Management.
While White’s expertise in tax planning was evident early on in her career, she made the industry shift from a large accounting firm to wealth management due to her talent and passion for cultivating trust-based relationships.
“Over time, I realized I wanted a more holistic approach to helping clients,” she says.
“Nexus was looking for a new lead for its wealth planning offering as the previous person was retiring. The firm was much smaller then, and taking that leap of faith allowed me to combine my technical background with a broader advisory role. Helping clients understand their financial needs and give them the confidence to achieve their family’s goals has been rewarding.”
The biggest achievement of White’s career has been contributing to the progression of Nexus from a small firm to a well-respected name in the Canadian wealth management landscape, and to now leading the firm.
“Through strategic planning, building a strong team, staying committed to delivering integrated financial advice, and executing our investment philosophy, we’ve expanded significantly while maintaining our client-centric culture.”
She adds, “Seeing that transformation – and knowing I played a role in shaping both the growth and the values of the firm – has been incredibly rewarding.”
In her client-facing role, White delves deep into each of her clients’ financial circumstances, ensuring that desired outcomes are reflected in their portfolios. She relies on her ability to explain complex topics in understandable terms, providing guidance that gives them peace of mind.
“When clients understand the ‘why’ behind their overall strategy, they are more likely to stay disciplined and achieve their goals.”
Though standing out as a woman in a male-dominated industry wasn’t easy initially, White’s relationship-building capabilities have been the key differentiator in her success.
“I found that I was able to connect with clients on a deeper level,” she explains. “Clients want more than just numbers, they want a meaningful discussion around values, financial independence and leaving a legacy.”
In her leadership role at the firm, White navigates the challenge of balancing Nexus’ unique culture and client service alongside strategic initiatives.
“Every day, I work on clear communication – it’s so important internally and with clients – as well as reinforcing our core values.”
Mentorship is another key component of the industry veteran’s work. White aims to pass the knowledge she has accumulated onto the next generation of advisors at Nexus. She also highlights the tangible benefits of working with a younger cohort that delivers fresh ideas and perspectives to Nexus.
“Beyond my role at Nexus, I contribute to the industry through mentorship. I participate in the Rosie Mentorship Program, providing one-on-one guidance to women advancing their careers in related fields.”
